Mold can be a mystery, and can be at the root cause of health issues. Often it can be in our homes, or workplaces. Mold can stem from a small water leak, or excess moisture.

Common locations in the home are bathrooms, laundry area, and kitchen, but can be anywhere growing within or on walls.Patients will have a few symptoms, but often not every system.

The most common symptoms are:

  • Fatigue

  • Sneezing, or congestion

  • Headache

  • Itchy skin

  • Joint pain

  • Brain Fog

Mold can be tested in the form of its mycotoxins in the urine or blood.

Here are some additional potential health effects associated with exposure to mold:

Respiratory Issues: Mold spores can trigger allergic reactions and irritate the respiratory system, leading to symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, nasal congestion, throat irritation, and shortness of breath. Individuals with asthma or other respiratory conditions may experience exacerbation of their symptoms.

Allergic Reactions: Some people are sensitive to mold and may develop allergic reactions upon exposure. Symptoms can include sneezing, runny or itchy nose, red or itchy eyes, skin rash, and even fever.

Fungal Infections: Certain types of mold, such as Aspergillus and Candida, can cause infections in individuals with weakened immune systems. These infections can affect the lungs, skin, eyes, or other organs, depending on the type of mold and the individual\’s susceptibility.

Toxic Effects: Some molds produce mycotoxins, which are toxic substances that can cause a range of health effects when ingested, inhaled, or touched. Exposure to mycotoxins can lead to symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, fatigue, nausea, and in severe cases, organ damage.

Neurological Symptoms: There is some evidence to suggest that exposure to mold toxins may contribute to neurological symptoms such as memory loss, difficulty concentrating, confusion, and mood changes. However, more research is needed to fully understand the relationship between mold exposure and neurological health.

Immune System Suppression: Prolonged exposure to mold and its toxins may weaken the immune system, making individuals more susceptible to infections and other illnesses.

It\’s important to address mold problems promptly to minimize health risks. This may involve identifying and eliminating sources of moisture, improving ventilation, cleaning and removing mold-infested materials, and using appropriate protective measures during cleanup efforts.

If you suspect that mold is affecting your health, we’d be happy to help.
