Naturopathic Doctor Dr. Alisha Bhatia highlights the importance of using clean, non-toxic health and body products for overall wellness and skin health.

In recent years, there has been a significant shift in consumer preferences towards clean products. People are becoming increasingly conscious about the impact of their choices on their health and the environment.

In this blog, we will explore the concept of clean products, their benefits, and how they are shaping a healthier future.

What are Clean Products?

Clean products are goods that are manufactured and formulated with a strong emphasis on safety, health, and environmental sustainability. They are typically free from toxic or harmful chemicals, artificial additives, and unnecessary fillers.

Clean products span various categories, including personal care items, household cleaners, cosmetics, food and beverages, and more.

Benefits of Clean Products

  1. Better Health: Clean products prioritize the use of natural and organic ingredients, reducing the risk of exposure to harmful chemicals.

When purchasing products avoiding toxins commonly found in conventional  products, such:

  • Parabens: Disrupt hormones

  • Phthalates: Phthalates have been linked to hormone disruption, reproductive issues, and developmental problems.

  • Sulfates: Removes too much oil from hair and skin, removing the protective barrier therefore causing dry itchy skin and dermatitis.

  • Artificial fragrances:These are petroleum based which is harmful to our health. The chemicals found in fragrances are endocrine disruptors and carcinogens.

2. Environmental Sustainability: Clean products often embrace sustainable practices from sourcing raw materials to production processes. They strive to reduce carbon footprints, minimize waste, and prioritize renewable resources. By choosing clean products, consumers can contribute to the preservation of ecosystems, reduce pollution, and promote a more sustainable future for generations to come.

3.Ethical Production: Clean products are often produced by companies that prioritize fair trade practices, cruelty-free testing, and ethical sourcing. Consumers who opt for clean products can support businesses that are committed to social responsibility, workers\’ rights, and animal welfare.

In addition to the commonly known chemicals like parabens, phthalates, sulfates, and artificial fragrances, there are several other toxins that you should be aware of and avoid when choosing personal care products.

  1. Formaldehyde: Found in some nail polishes, hair straightening treatments, and certain skincare products, formaldehyde is a known carcinogen and can cause skin irritation, allergies, and respiratory issues.

  2. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES): These foaming agents are often found in shampoos, body washes, and toothpaste. They can strip the skin and hair of natural oils, leading to dryness and irritation.

  3. Triclosan: Often used in antibacterial soaps, toothpaste, and deodorants, triclosan can disrupt hormone balance and contribute to antibiotic resistance.

  4. Oxybenzone: Commonly found in sunscreen and other sun care products, oxybenzone is a chemical sunscreen agent that can penetrate the skin and may have hormone-disrupting effects.

  5. Coal Tar: Found in some anti-dandruff shampoos, hair dyes, and scalp treatments, coal tar is a known carcinogen and can cause skin sensitivity and allergic reactions.
